There's a reason aviation leather outlives the planes it's installed in. It's not just the quality of the hide — it's how it's maintained. Muirhead leather is built to last decades. Left without care, even the finest leather dries, cracks and fades within years. Cared for properly, it deepens, softens and tells a story.

We've seen Muirhead hides returned from aircraft interiors after 25 years of service — worn beautifully, supple and structurally intact. That's not chance. It's maintenance.

Most leather cleaners weren't made for leather like this. Harsh solvents, alcohol-based wipes, furniture polish — they strip the natural oils and break down the protective finish we spent decades perfecting. We made our own.

How to Use

Three steps.
No guesswork.

A formula developed around the chemistry of pigment-finished aniline leather. Clean, condition and protect in a single application — no rinsing, no buffing required.

Open & Unfold

Pull one wipe from the resealable pack and unfold fully. Reseal the pack immediately to keep the remaining wipes saturated. Each wipe covers a full half-hide in a single pass.

Wipe the Surface

Apply with smooth, circular strokes following the grain direction. The surfactant blend penetrates the open grain, encapsulating oil and particulate deposits at a microscopic level.

For aviation interiors or high-use upholstery, we recommend a full clean every 3–6 months. For light-use pieces — occasional-use furniture, show cars — once a year is sufficient. The key sign to watch for is any dulling or stiffness in the leather surface; that indicates the moisture balance has started to deplete.

These wipes are formulated specifically for Muirhead's pigment-finished and semi-aniline leathers — covering all our aviation and upholstery ranges including Caledonian, Grampian, LightCore™, FreeTAN and Natural Performance. We do not recommend them for naked or pure aniline leathers, suede, nubuck, or non-Muirhead hides where the finish chemistry is unknown.

No. The formula is designed to be left in place. As it air dries, the conditioning polymers bond to the leather surface and the cleaning surfactants evaporate cleanly. There is no residue, no stickiness and no need for a secondary buff. This is by design — a buffing step introduces friction that can gradually dull the finish over time.

Each unfolded wipe covers approximately 2–2.5 m² in a single pass, so one wipe is typically sufficient for a half-hide and two for a full hide. For aircraft seat sets or larger upholstery projects, a pack of 20 will comfortably cover a full aircraft cabin or an entire suite of furniture.

Exceptional for aviation interiors — nothing else comes close

We've been specifying Muirhead leather for private jet interiors for over a decade, and finding a care product that doesn't interfere with the surface treatment has always been a challenge. These wipes are the first thing I've used that genuinely cleans without dulling the finish. Used on a full Caledonian SX011 cabin — the leather came up looking brand new. Resealing between seats was quick and the formula dried without any residue. Will be ordering in bulk for every project going forward.

Perfect for Cairngorm hides — pH-balanced matters more than you think

I bought a full Cairngorm Mallard hide from Scottish Leather Outlet and wanted to make sure I was caring for it properly. Most leather wipes are either too alkaline or strip the natural oils — you can feel it in the stiffness after a few months. These are pH 6.8 which is exactly right for aniline-finished leather. Applied to a set of dining chairs and the difference was immediate. The leather feels supple again and the colour depth has come back. Already ordered a second pack.

Excellent results, simple application — loses one star for pack size only

Really pleased with these. I used them on a set of four Caledonian SX011 chairs that had been in storage for about 18 months — they came out looking as good as the day they were delivered. The pre-saturated format means you don't have to guess how much product to use, which I appreciated. My only comment is that 20 wipes goes faster than you'd expect on a large piece. Would love to see a 40-wipe option. But the formula itself is genuinely excellent and I won't use anything else on Muirhead leather going forward.

We use these at our restoration studio — nothing else on Muirhead leather

Run a bespoke furniture restoration studio in Glasgow and we handle Muirhead leather regularly — both new hides and older pieces that need reviving. We've tried every product on the market and these wipes are the only ones we'll use on Muirhead. The alcohol-free formula is critical; anything with alcohol content starts to affect the surface treatment on older hides within a few applications. These clean deeply without any of that risk. The resealable pack keeps well between jobs too. On our fourth order now.
